CITY QUAYS GARDENS
City Quays Gardens is the first project in Northern Ireland to be designed to ‘One Planet Living’ environmental accreditation, reflecting its and commitment to sustainability. Created with City Quays occupiers at its core, the Gardens provide a flexible outdoor space designed for breakout sessions, wellbeing, and informal working.
The landscaped areas and public spaces not only enhance the natural environment but also create new habitats to support local biodiversity. This thoughtfully designed green space offers a tranquil setting for occupiers and the wider community to enjoy, promoting wellbeing while contributing positively to the environment.
Belfast Harbour, in partnership with Ulster Wildlife, has launched Northern Ireland’s first oyster nursery within a commercial shipping channel, aiming to restore native oyster populations, improve water quality, and enhance marine biodiversity.
Situated off the pontoon at City Quays' AC Marriott Hotel, the nursery is home to around 600 native oysters—each capable of filtering up to 200 litres of water daily. This natural filtration helps reduce pollution, improve water clarity, and support the recovery of valuable seagrass habitats. Over time, the oysters will form reefs, creating vital habitats for marine life and contributing to the revival of a species once thriving in Belfast Lough.
